2000's Fender Japan MG66 Mustang in Torino Red (TRD), with dark rosewood fretboard and lightly figured maple neck.
The MG66’s first and only catalog appearance was in the 1995 Twang issue, resembling the features of the first year 1964 Mustang—slab body, veneer rosewood fretboard, and white button Kluson style tuners.
The only other known/documented example of the ’66 variant I’m aware of is the non-catalog Kanda Shokai “MG66-66” order model (DK-186) from 2004–2005, which was offered in Torino Red (TRD). (However, this example is a script Crafted in Japan “O” serial, and could have been produced anywhere between 1997–2004.)
Both iterations predated the MG65, which wasn’t introduced until the 2007 catalog—featuring a poplar body, slab rosewood fretboard, “F” tuning keys, and “Pat. Number” headstock decal.
Manufactured at the Dyna factory.
100% fully functional.
Set up with D'Addario 10-46 strings, and plays well up and down the neck with proper intonation.
Includes Fender Japan gig bag. No vibrato arm.
